El Centro Polivalente Valle de Salazar es un iniciativa del Gobierno de Navarra, enmarcada dentro del Plan Estratégico de Desarrollo del Pirineo, encaminada a dotar al Valle de un centro mixto de negocios y de equipamientos públicos que centralice servicios a las empresas y a la comunidad.
El Centro es un nodo activador a la escala del Valle de Salazar, que es la escala de las infraestructuras lineales que lo articulan (el río Salazar y la carretera NA-178), de manera que el edificio se plantea como un HITO INFORMACIONAL que se asoma AL BORDE DEL CAMINO para conseguir el principal objetivo: identidad y visibilidad.
La TIPOLOGÍA es capaz de albergar usos públicos, como una sala multiusos y la administración y gestión del Valle, así como la activación del tejido industrial y comercial de la zona con los espacios productivos y locales propuestos. El tipo es resuelto con una secuencia de tres bandas, de sección cambiante, que flexibilizan al máximo los usos futuros y las conexiones transversales.
El Centro está enraizado en el CONTEXTO local: por el uso de las tradicionales cubiertas inclinadas y la tipología industrial del entorno inmediato, por la puesta en valor del paisaje de transición del Valle, y por la triple materialidad utilizada: chapa de acero (contexto inmediato industrial), madera de pino (contexto económico-cultural) y piedra caliza de la zona.

These works transform the colors of mass culture -- of television, saturated magazine ads, bags of Wonder Bread -- into wild, oscillating spectra bordering on the organic. Dusk red blobs fan rows of yellow leaves; teardrop shapes of black nudge indigo forms resembling paramecium, single-cells, or algae blooms. One of the most original artists working today, Apfelbaum's painting pushes past its traditional disciplinary forms, off the wall, and into pop culture. Apfelbaum's work calls for audiences to think about the pleasure of aesthetic experience -- and to experience the pleasure of aesthetics.

The large-scale intervention is conceived as a stitching process, by which the Gamla Övägen is no longer a linear barrier.  The aim is to reactivate life in this outlying neighbourhood and the operation is materialized by a number of rings, which morphologically adapt to the landscape and the necessities. Conceptually perceived as glue drops the infrastructural rings will provide  the people from Norra Vrinnevi with the appropriate connection, as well as being equipped with hybrid functions in a must-see pedestrian path. The housing units are strategically placed responding to the social-age groups and the new uses. The optimistic intervention is understood as a  complementary node to Vilbergen, with an insight into new activities that can help attract young people to the area.

laura alvarez architecture  has realized a complete renovation of an apartment located in the area of Kattenburg in Amsterdam.
Bringing light inside and achieving spatiality have been the two main goals of this project.
The apartment built in the 70’s is located in a very quite and green area in the city centre of Amsterdam.
The southeast-orientated garden provides the house with fantastic views and light conditions.

Designing the Eco-Architecture starts at the very begining of the project design, in the space creating phase. Conscious and intelligent design decissions, conformed to the general vision of an eco-friendly building results with solutions that have essential influence on the living-space quality as well as ecological essence of the house/building itself. However, the technical solutions suitable for a house, chosen on the cutting edge of the contemporary tendencies, and with respect to the client's budget, emphasize the architecture's aspiration to become fully autonomous.

En muchos sentidos este es un proyecto que comparte la lógica de una matrioska. No solo en el sentido físico más literal, en el que uno queda incorporado en otro, sino también en un sentido temporal, en el que uno se da dentro de otro. Las condiciones de partida  configuraban un escenario propicio para esta condición:
Un proyecto de emergencia.  La Red Bull Music Academy Madrid 2011:
La Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) es un evento musical anual y nómada. Desde hace 14, cada año una ciudad del mundo acoge a los 60 participantes internacionales seleccionados y los rodea de músicos, productores y dj's para experimentar e intercambiar conocimientos en torno a la música. Debido al terremoto y al posterior desastre de Fukushima, la que debía haber sido la RBMA  de Tokyo 2011 tuvo que cambiar de sede y buscar una nueva ubicación con menos de 5 meses para su desarrollo. La ciudad de Madrid tomó el relevo y aprovechó el espacio de creación de Matadero Madrid, ubicado en un antiguo conjunto industrial de principios del S. XX,  como nueva sede del evento.
Un proyecto a medio plazo, La Nave de la Música en Matadero Madrid
Con la RBMA se inicia la programación de la Nave de la Música dedicada específicamente a la creación e investigación sonora. A partir de la instalación creada, y dado su carácter experimental, lo construido se plantea como una estructura temporal basada en criterios de adaptabilidad y reversibilidad que faciliten reconfiguraciones totales o parciales del espacio en el tiempo.
Bajo estas premisas, el encargo pasaba por crear, en condiciones de urgencia, una infraestructura que fuese capaz, además de responder a necesidades técnicas y acústicas precisas, acelerar, favorecer y enriquecer una serie de relaciones artísticas muy intensas que se iban a dar entre los músicos participantes  y a su vez añadir una envolvente o un escenario donde todo esto iba a ser registrado y archivado.

The first feeling  when looking at the project site is a sense of sudden break due to the presence of  Gamla Övagen Road  which acts in fact as a strong physical and mental barrier between the Vilbergen district and Reserve Vrinnevi.
Besides, the site seems disconnected from the city because of a lack of public transport on the one hand and to the low attractiveness of this area  for   the city on the other hand.  Apart from the hospital  on the Vrinnevi side,  there is in fact only one local network on the project site.
Finally, the southern entrance to the town is not built,  the transition from rural to urban is not really clear. The road and the landscape around it must symbolyse Norrkoping  from this entrance.

This competition was a 48hours architecture marathon, where we were supposed to design a mortuary home.
The shape raises from the ground to define the street in an attempt to control the permeability to the introspective forest-like area that links with the existing graveyard space annex.
Thus a new block is given to the city with a space for reflection not exposed directly to the public.
Fundamental to the design of this dome was the creation of an internal logic path for funeral ritual.
The course is divided into two approaches, first a moment of mourning and introspection. Here there is a way into the main chapel, that distributes to the three ceremony chapels.
The building becomes the hinge between this dark moment and the next "breathing" moment, appears connected with the garden and the program of a social character.

Christodoulos Panayiotou has emerged as one of the most significant young European artists working today.  Through numerous forms, his work addresses a range of issues and concerns from the legacy of theater, to the construction of national identity and history.  Panayiotou frequently takes the phenomena of public functions and spectacles as a point of departure from which to explore the structures and customs that inform social experience.   His process also incorporates the archives of the press as well as the regional and national agencies of his home nation of Cyprus. What results is what the artist has described as an “excavation” of Cyprus’ visual history that brings to light the “‘cults’ and ‘obsessions’ of … [this] emerging state and reveals the wider mechanisms of modern constructions of national narratives.”  Despite the vast difference between the United States and Cyprus, Panayiotou’s work prompts greater recognition of how different interpretations of a collective sense of identity are dependent on the manner in which images and information are arranged and presented to us.  For his presentation at CAM St. Louis — the artist’s first solo museum exhibition in the United States — Panayiotou will present new and preexisting works that demonstrate both the range of techniques and the socio-political concerns that define his practice.  New works being created for the exhibition include a multi-part series of appropriated photographs from official Cyprus archives depicting examples of civic processions, displays, and events, to evoke various ways in which people are collectively assembled and addressed in various situations, and a site-specific mural based on a theatrical backdrop from a popular music concert resembling an abstract action-painting that suggests the frequent intersections of avant-garde and popular culture in the public sphere.

La funcionalidad de un espacio como las Brañas del Sar, en el que se encuentra la parcela,  tiene que ver tanto con su vocación productiva como con su posición en relación a la ciudad de Santiago. Su futura configuración como zona verde debería tener en cuenta ambas cuestiones. En este sentido la construcción de un edificio dentro de este tradicional espacio productivo no deja de ser una incursión extraña y, en principio, ajena a los procesos que regían su funcionamiento. Por todo ello hemos intentado comprender estas claves, de forma que la nueva construcción suponga el mínimo impacto sobre el medio.
La parcela está situada en una zona de tierras de labor en la parte baja de la ladera del monte Gaiás. Su forma es triangular como consecuencia del trazado de dos viales, uno existente y otro previsto en el Plan General. Cuenta con una pendiente bastante uniforme y una diferencia de cota máxima de unos 10m. La intención de quedar inmersos en el espacio de Brañas, nos ha llevado a situarnos en la parte inferior de la parcela, impidiendo que el volumen sobrepase en ningún punto la cota superior de la misma.

El pabellón es un Arca, una caja simple con un contenido sorprendente. Como edificio en el parque inundado, se presenta como una estructura simple, una cúpula de concreto que provee una habitación para la cultura y un refugio para múltiples actividades. La estructura es cruda y esencial: el domo se presenta como una caja. La cúpula en la caja se entiende como un hito cultural para la población mapuche. En las intersecciones con forma de arco entre la cúpula y la caja, se ha diseñado una serie de portones gigantes de madera que actúan como una doble piel. Estos portones se desplazan verticalmente, a modo de guillotina por fuera de los muros del Arca; de esta manera, abren completamente el refugio a la vez que ofrecen una variedad de puertas dentro de puertas, que funcionan como pasos o postigos para permitir conexiones más sutiles hacia el exterior. Este es un mecanismo que permite controlar tanto eventos colectivos como el clima extremo; es una pieza móvil que modifica el carácter desnudo del pabellón. En tres de sus lados los portones están pintados con los colores de la bandera mapuche: celeste, verde y rojo. En el cuarto lado de la caja se ubica una construcción de madera independiente, pintada totalmente en amarillo (el cuarto color de la bandera), que contiene las funciones de apoyo al pabellón. El edificio de madera es autónomo y es, en varios sentidos, la contraparte del domo de hormigón: una especie de armario de madera, elegante y preciso, fabricado con maderas de finas terminaciones. En la base del pabellón, los suelos naturales y construidos se unen en una textura pareja y continua de hormigón. Sobre el domo hay un jardín oculto, solo accesible por una escalera desde el edificio de madera. La parte alta del domo ofrece vistas sobre las dunas, hacia el mar. Este jardín es un espacio secreto con una vista inesperada. (KGDVS)

The City of Deventer is in search of ideas for the regeneration of the old harbor area: how to update the outdated industrial parts of a city?
Before proposing new interventions we began with a careful study of the dynamics of the existing situation. We organized spaces, places and activities not by age or type, but by the way people use them today. We identified and mapped all areas and investigated the potential of un(der)used spaces. After that we started a study of a possible distribution of the varied program and activities; (traditional)work spaces, student housing, a cafe, car parks, spaces for artists, a waiting area for boats, a public toiltet, outdoor cinema area, etc.
To accomodate these programmes the addition of a single volume, as proposed in the original master plan, seemed to make it difficult to interweave and integrate within the existing context. Strangely, we felt that to connect, we needed to disconnect, to fragment. Our proposal thus became a closely knit collection of single volumes. The ensemble allows various identities to co-exist naturally and for existing elements to be easily incorporated. It allows users to move on site in multiple directions and activities to take place simultaneously. It need not to be planned at build all at once; it can grow over time and mutate parallel to the needs and wishes of its users.
The surrounding old silo’s will maintain their historical dominant appreance and position, but will be re-programmed to better connect to the new conditions on site.

Das Grundstück „Giardin“ befindet sich genau im Übergang von der homogenen zur heterogenen Dorfstruktur Samedans. Dieser Bereich gehört zu der Dorfkernzone und bildet gleichzeitig den

Dorfkernabschluss. Die Analyse der bestehenden Bebauung zeigt für diesen Dorfteil eine grosse Vielfalt von unterschiedlichsten Gebäudetypologien. Einzelne turmartige Gebäude, viele massige

Volumen und einige kleinere Gebäude gruppieren sich zu einer vielfältigen Einheit. Auch mischen sich im Bereich „Bügl da la Nina“ Flachdachbauten und Gebäude mit einem Satteldach. Diese Durchmischung scheint zufällig, prägt jedoch den Ort. Die angrenzende Freihaltezone lockert das Gefüge auf und bereichert es durch einen Freiraum.

Two spatial characteristics stand out in the way they are worked and constructed. The exhibition rooms, of varying dimensions to allow greater amplitude of use, and which occur in series, reducing their design to the minimum, camouflaging all the technical infrastructure, in a way that the work of art is the core element of the visit. In opposition the auditorium presents a detailed and affirmative design in order to provide maximum value as a space for shows and to allow a wide variety of programming. Confronted with creating an Arts Centre, in the intensity of a rural landscape, with the insular and ancestral wish to observe the sea, this building was designed.

‘Polikatoikea’ seeks a compromise between a greek rule (polikatoika) and a swedish philosophy (ikea). The project is an (almost) politic move that seeks the densification of the city through a low-cost construction targeting a young and unattached client. (On a conceptual level) the project attempts to provide an idea that fights the ‘desertification’ where, in face of an unstable economic conjecture, the low cost appears as a possible (and affordable) solution. The backyard is seen as the basic element of the proposal: it is abstracted and repeated on every floor unfolding a series of new public platforms. New terraces are proposed above the previous rooftops using simple structural solutions, offering more square meters to the city without leaving the plot. In these new places density is created by placing individual capsules, bubbles of private space. Thinking about japanese metabolist principles, which seem increasingly current, the capsule becomes the ‘house’ filling all the contemporary basic living needs.

Robert Breer's career as artist and animator spans 50 years and his creative explorations have made him an international figure. He began his artistic pursuits as a painter while living in Paris from 1949-59. Using an old Bolex 16mm camera, his first films, such as Form Phases, were simple stop motion studies based on his abstract paintings.

Breer has always been fascinated by the mechanics of film. Perhaps his father's fascination with 3-D inspired Breer to tinker with early mechanical cinematic devices. His father was an engineer and designer of the legendary Chrysler Airflow automobile in 1934 and built a 3-D camera to film all the family vacations. After studying engineering at Stanford, Breer changed his focus toward hand crafted arts and began experimenting with flip books. These animations, done on ordinary 4" by 6" file cards have become the standard for all of Breer's work, even to this day.

On the beginning, Leeuwarden village was located by an inlet that in fact was a lake. The big water determined the city sprawl. Then the lake was changed into grid of canals, and fields. The city extended parallel into dense grid of streets and canals. City block became the mane typology. Later on it sprawl towards the former so called Middelzee and the city spirit was lost. With our strategy, we want to revive the primal nature of the site. Adjusting canal grid once again, by a simple gesture of squeezing it into a bigger volume, the statement is made. The new lake is created, so that outstanding features describe Leeuwarden. Again. the site is an ideal place for water lovers, for whose affection the big lake is more appropriate than practical, but characterless narrow irrigation canals. The site character now is distinctive. It is similar to a big city block. It is as natural as a region of Fryslan should be, directed into the phenomena of something between urban and rural lifestyle.

Este edificio es, sin duda, un parásito.
El edificio está situado en el lado sur del cerro de Monteagudo.
Se trata de la primera fase de un proyecto que debería mejorar el acceso al castillo de Monteagudo, restaurándolo para que se convierta en un lugar visitado y seguro fundamentalmente.
La pendiente de la montaña es una tierra históricamente ocupada desde los restos prehistóricos de las estructuras y los materiales de la cultura Argárica hasta hoy, a través de la civilización romana y árabe.
En particular, el lugar elegido para el Centro de Visitantes es un pueblo argárico en un buen estado de conservación y un yacimiento romano.

The project plays an important role in the understanding of new ways of living through the fusion of both, terrace and living areas. The user will customize the ambient of each dwelling, opening and closing different light and isolation panels in façade. The proposal gives users the opportunity to decide whether to have open spaces or separated areas.

Sharon Lockhart (*1964 in Norwood, Massachusetts) prepares for her photographs and films with time- and labor-intensive research efforts. Her early works contain allusions to classic films and film-still-like photographs that point to her immediate environment, Hollywood. One of her best-known works from this period is Audition (1994), a series of colour photographs in which boys and girls reenact a scene from François Truffaut’s L’argent de poche (Small Change) from 1975. The photographs, which look like film stills, create an irritating contradiction between the age of the performers and the scenes they are reenacting, a tension that is characteristic of Lockhart’s work, which often depicts children or young people in the transitional phase between childhood and adulthood.

The building will be implanted in a very heterogeneous urban zone composed of houses, apartment blocks and several industrial buildings. The project’s departure point was therefore the challenge of being able to contribute to the definition, organisation and design of this district’s urban spaces. The first stage of our research was to question the form and its urban context, so that we could define an ensemble both maximising the plot and addressing the specific constraints of both of the project’s components. From the outside, the building is a compact parallelepiped whose only irregularity is the large opening in the south facade, leading to the more private entity of the CSL beyond. The view/non-view and open/closed constraints of each of the project’s components are optimised by the interplay of overlapping volumes. The long, uniform rectangle of the SPIP reinforces the urban front on the avenue. Its quasi-mono-orientated volume prevents any aural or visual communication with the minimum-security prison. The volume of the SPIP forms a solid, natural frontier enabling the CSL to function in complete security in the middle of the block and shielding it from outside view. The CSL is set further back, along rue des Acacias. Its entrance is marked by the large overhang, shielding the neutral zone from view. The CSL’s main entrance and logistic and administrative zones give onto a secure and lit exterior volume, whereas the inmates’ zone gives onto the interiorised heart of the block. The outer perforated steel layer enveloping the façade acts as a visual filter and gives the architecture a strong unitary identity. This layer acts as an initial solar protection and complements the ‘thicker’ inner thermal insulation façade. The façade consists of a structural screen in concrete, an exterior rain-protected insulation, and a metallic envelope composed of perforated sheet metal panels with a Cor-Ten effect finish. The envelope has folding and sliding shutters over the windows and follows the building’s 1.35m grid to correspond to the east/west aspects of the offices. The perforation density of each façade varies in function of aspect, to optimise natural lighting and solar protection, and considerably increase thermal performance. CSL’s inner facades, in direct contact with the inmates’ area, are composed of robust, watertight, self-cleaning, prefabricated wall elements. Two major advantages of this innovative and rational structural solution are rapid installation and reduced production time and cost.

La obsolescencia, de buena parte de las últimas áreas urbanizadas de la ciudad, ha puesto en evidencia desacuerdos entre la realidad actual y los modelos de desarrollo heredados. De manera ambiciosa, anticipan la urbanización a las imprevisibles demandas de futuro, que atienden a procesos más complejos de índole social o económica.
Estos desacuerdos, de índole general, entre el presente y el futuro planificado, se particularizan en el ámbito de estudio por el drástico cambio que proyectan sobre la singularidad de este paisaje. Cualidad que surge de la confrontación de símbolos de la metrópoli, como el centro comercial tres aguas, áreas comerciales, pequeñas industrias, frente a connotaciones más propias del ámbitos rurales, como la existencia de vías pecuarias, las acequias, caminos, antiguas parcelas de cultivo, áreas verdes no ajardinadas, incluso la presencia de animales domésticos o exóticos como la pequeña reserva de renos de maderas Roque. Contradicciones que constituyen su verdadera identidad.
Si debemos recoger este testigo, la estrategia de “ordenación” más eficaz parece ser, no sólo la que negocie los desacuerdos entre ambas situaciones presente y futura, a un “justi-precio” medioambientalmente sostenible, sino la que consiga la contigüidad de este paisaje sin violentar su identidad.
