La nueva Biblioteca Nacional y Universitaria NUKII se sitúa en el centro histórico de Ljubljana a escasos metros de la Biblioteca Universitária de Jože Plečnik en un solar ocupado por las ruinas romanas de la antigua ciudad de Emona. El vasto programa solicitado de 20.000m2 se compacta en un volumen único que se adapta al ajustado solar buscando una autonomía formal en tanto que edificio público.
